Justice For Christmas

Here’s my day after Christmas Bible quote:

If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength being small;
If you hold back from rescuing those taken away to death, those who go staggering to the slaughter;
If you say, ‘Look, we did not know this’ –does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?
Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know?
And will he not repay all according to their deeds?

I don’t know about your god but my god is the god of justice. It makes him mad to see little girls being sold into sexual slavery (a nice term but please now imagine a 12 year old girl’s hour by hour life in a brothel in Thailand) while we sit by and yawn. My God just freaks out when he sees us doing that. I thought I made them in my image!

OK, so I’m a dancing pig, not Harrison Ford. But I can still support “religious” organizations like:

Amnesty International
– because they ring the bell and jump and shout and get out the phone chains and won’t stop until the world is forced to look at what they would much prefer to ignore.

Human Rights Watch – because they go to the dusty impossible places and do the research and write the reports and document the evidence and organize the PR machine until even the Sudanese government of darkness has to squirm.

International Justice Mission – Because they ratchet the focus down to case by case – using their smart international lawyers and undercover investigators impersonating typical American tourists to rescue slaves from brick yards and cigarette factories of India and Cambodian children from whorehouses of fiendishness for the delectation of evil deadheart dentists.

New Life Center in Chiang Mai Thailand – because they’ve created and run well a safe place for girls to hide when they are freed from forced prostitution or at risk of being sold by opium-addicted parents.

Room To Read – because they give kids a chance to fight for themselves by bringing books and literacy school by school village by village across Asia and now beginning in Africa.

Even a foolish dancing pig like me can do something by giving some of my slops to the brave ones who were born to fight.
I pray this year I’ll get braver.
